SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Sioux City earned its third consecutive victory over Omaha on Tuesday night. The 6-3 win cut the Lancers' lead in the United States Hockey League's Western Conference in half.
Josh Erickson scored two goals and David Henry had three points to lead the Musketeers before a crowd of 1,786 at the Tyson Events Center.
Omaha now has a two-point lead over second-place Lincoln after the Stars defeated Tri-City 6-3 Tuesday night at the Ice Box. The Lancers have 55 standings points with 16 games to play while the Stars now have 53 with 18 games remaining on their schedule.
The Lancers (26-15-3) scored the opening goal at 9:27 of the first period when Max Vallis knocked home a right wing rebound on the power play for his 13th goal of the season. But the Musketeers (20-23-1) bounced back with two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Sioux City also outscored the Lancers 2-1 in both the second and third periods. The Musketeers took a 3-1 lead when Kyle Criscuolo picked up a loose puck in the Lancers' goal crease for his 15th goal of the season.
Lancers defenseman Kenney Morrison got that goal back with another Omaha power play goal at 11:58. But just more than five minutes later Erickson scored the first of his two goals with 2:34 remaining before the second break.
Omaha cut Sioux City's lead to 4-3 at 5:21 of the third period on a goal by Tanner Lane. The Lancers' hopes for a comeback took a big hit when Erickson scored again at 16:16. David Goodwin wrapped up the scoring for Sioux City with an empty net goal 23 seconds before the end of the game.
The Lancers next game will be at 7:35 p.m. Friday in Fargo at Scheels Arena.
