A 26-year-old medical student will not be charged in connection with the death of a pedestrian last month.
Investigators concluded that Kimberly Acker could not have avoided hitting Ronald D. Beckwith with her car near 38th and Leavenworth Streets, said Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine.
Beckwith, 50, suffered a head injury in the crash, which occurred just before 7 p.m. on Feb. 9. Beckwith died later at Creighton University Medical Center.
There were no witnesses to the accident and very little physical evidence. But investigators determined that Acker was not speeding or using her cell phone.
She also had a green light.
Investigators could not determine if Beckwith was within the crosswalk, Klein said. Tests showed he had a high blood-alcohol level. — Sam Womack
