Cafe 110 opens downtown

Downtown Omaha has a new lunch spot. Cafe 110 is open in the northwest corner of the Landmark Building, at 1299 Farnam St. It's named for the suite number it occupies.

The restaurant serves breakfast, including pastries and continental breakfast that includes a small coffee and a choice of a bagel with cream cheese or a giant muffin for $3.50.

A buffet includes salad bar selections, a daily sandwich special, soup and yogurt. Prices range from $1.75 to $5.75. Cafe 110 also serves coffee drinks, smoothies, Italian sodas and sweets such as cookies, cheesecakes and biscotti. The restaurant also will play host to art exhibitions and live music.

The restaurant is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information and a calendar of events, visit www.cafe110omaha.com.

Many Indian dishes offered

Curri — a new Indian restaurant — is now open off 74th and Pacific Streets. Owner Manideepa Nugoou is serving tandoori, biryani and South Indian specialties on a menu that includes lots of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians.

Dining in Brownville

Brownville — a popular day-trip destination south of Nebraska City — once again has a restaurant. The Lyceum Restaurant, inside the Lyceum Bookstore, reopened in March. The casual restaurant serves comfort food.

The restaurant's library of books will still be available to read while dining or for purchase, and the town's visitors center is in the space. For more information or hours, call 402-825-4321.

Best burger joints

The Nebraska Beef Council named the finalists for the state's best burger this week.

The list: Big Red Restaurant & Sports Bar, which has locations in Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk and Fremont; Blanc Burgers and Bottles in Omaha; Fred and Ruby's Parkway Lanes in Lincoln; Gourmet Butcher Block in Gretna; Greenfield's in Lincoln; Mookie's in Minden; Runza restaurants, which have locations statewide; Sinful Burger Sports Bar and Grill in Bellevue; Stella's in Bellevue; and Tommy Colina's Kitchen in Omaha.

The council asked Nebraskans to vote online to name the 10 finalists, and more than 100 restaurants statewide received nominations. A panel of anonymous judges will evaluate the burgers based on taste, proper cooking and appearance. They will choose a winner by the end of April.

Recruiting for run

Cantina Laredo is playing host to a recruitment party to encourage runners and walkers to sign up for the second annual Kili Is My CASA 5.8 kilometer run to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates for children. CASA is a charitable organization that aims to provide a voice for abused and neglected children in the court system.

Omahan John MacKenzie organized the run after he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, in 2010 to benefit CASA. The5.8K run — the same length as the height of the mountain — takes place July 14 at Midtown Crossing in Omaha.

The Cantina Laredo event begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Last year's race winners will be at the party, and attendees can sign up for the race and eat Mexican food. Ten percent of sales that evening will benefit CASA.

New Thymes

Justin Thyme Cafe has new hours. The cafe is open Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cafe is at 8544 Park Drive in Omaha.
