Omaha Cheesecake Bakery to open

The Omaha Cheesecake Bakery -- a bakery straight out of the 1940s -- is opening in west Omaha.

Owners Scott and Agnes Neal left Omaha more than 20 years ago and opened Orange County Cheesecakes in Orange County, Calif. Then they moved to Vermont and opened Vermont Cheesecakes.

Now, they're expanding in Omaha.

The business manufactures desserts at wholesale prices for restaurants but is also open to the public, and has a cafe area with seating. More than 100 desserts are available to try, and the decor is meant to transport diners into the past, complete with 1940s style antiques, light fixtures and overstuffed chairs.

The bakery makes everything from scratch, including sour cream, caramel and fudge sauces. The sweets menu includes muffins, cookies, pies, cakes and more, along with a coffee bar that brews Mocha Joe'sCoffee, a Vermont-based roast.

The bakery is opening with a celebration on April 21. The Model-A Club of Omaha will have a car show in the parking lot and hot dogs and drinks will be available.

Omaha Cheesecake Bakery is located on the northeast corner of 144th and Fort. For more information, call 1-800-356-2787.
